Over eight decades and three ownerships, one thing has stayed constant: the same commitment to doing the job right the first time, on homes people have lived in for generations.

Where It Started: Bailey and Son (1945)
The company was founded by Bill Bailey, who built Bailey and Son into one of the South Shore's most respected exterior contracting businesses. For decades, Bailey and Son was the name homeowners in Hanover and the surrounding towns called when they needed windows, siding, or trim work done right.
Bill Bailey ran the company the way most good tradespeople do — on reputation, word of mouth, and the quality of the work left behind on every house.
A New Name, the Same Standard: Steve Gerrish Takes the Helm (1993)
Steve Gerrish started his career working at Bailey and Son. He learned the trade from the inside, left to start his own window company — North Star Windows — and built it into something Bill Bailey respected enough to sell to.
When Bill retired, he didn't just look for a buyer. He looked for someone who would take care of the business and the customers the way he had. Steve was that person.
Steve bought Bailey and Son in 1993 and brought the two companies together under the name North Star-Bailey — a name that honored where both businesses came from. Under Steve's ownership, North Star-Bailey continued to grow its reputation across the South Shore, adding siding, trim, and deck work to its core window installation services.
Steve ran the company for nearly three decades.
Keeping It in Good Hands: Bob and Bill Take Over (2020)
When Steve Gerrish passed away suddenly in 2020, his wife Cheryl faced a decision about what to do with the business he'd built. She chose Bob and Bill Gustafson — people who knew the industry, knew the South Shore, and knew how to take care of customers.
Bill Gustafson had been in the exterior contracting business his entire career, starting out working for his father at College Town Siding and Glass in East Bridgewater in 1981. He knows this trade the way most people know their own backyard.
Bob and Bill purchased North Star-Bailey from Cheryl in 2020 with a straightforward goal: keep the standards that made the company worth buying in the first place, and grow from there.
Since then, North Star-Bailey has expanded its services to include small home additions and in-law apartments — a natural extension of the exterior work the company has always done — while continuing to serve homeowners across Hanover, Hingham, Norwell, Scituate, Marshfield, and the broader South Shore.
What 80 Years Looks Like on the South Shore
Eight decades is a long time to be in business. It means we've worked on homes that have been in families for three generations. It means we've seen window and siding technology change dramatically — and we've kept up with every shift. It means the quality of our work is visible all over the South Shore, on capes and colonials and Victorian-era homes that needed a contractor who understood what they were looking at.
